The Pompidou Centre is coming to Malaga!

The Pompidou Centre in Paris is branching out and Malaga has been chosen as the hosts of its first ever ?pop-up?.

The Pompidou Centre has been open in Paris since 1977. Over the years it has established itself as being a cultural hub as well as an art gallery, displaying both modern and contemporary art collections over numerous different exhibitions.

In an exciting new adventure, The Pompidou?Centre want to display its exhibitions and introduce new material relating to the chosen cities at various ?pop-ups? around the world. After lengthy discussions dating back to 2008, it was revealed at the tail end of last year that Malaga will be the first city to host one, opening in March 2015 and displaying for at least the next five years.

El Cubo Pompidou

The site of The Pompidou Centre has been confirmed as ?El Cubo? at Muelle Uno, the port of Malaga (main picture). As well as 2,000 square metres of display spaces for permanent exhibitions and 362 square metres for rotating temporary exhibitions, El Cubo will also feature a 128-seat auditorium plus 'Studio 13/16', an area dedicated to teenagers. There has been a great deal of interest in The Pompidou Centre Malaga and what works it will contain. The agreement signed by Malaga council and the Pompidou Centre in Paris refers to a basic collection of 70 works and the organisation of one exhibition a year during the five years the agreement will be in place. It will be a welcome addition to Malaga and adds an extra element to the 30 museums already here for art lovers visiting this glorious city.

According to the details revealed, the Pompidou in Malaga will be organised into different sections: Metamorphosis, the body in sections, the political body, self-portraits, faceless Man, the workshop of Brancusi, and a final section dedicated to the architecture of the Pompidou, inspired by the building designed by Renzo Piano for his Parisian headquarters.

It is thought the cost of entry will vary depending on what you wish to see. If you only want to view the temporary exhibitions, it will cost 4?. If you only want to view the permanent exhibitions it will be 7? or to enter both, 9?.
