It is said that nothing in life is free; well we bring you a few things in Málaga that are just that, and which you can enjoy with your family and friends while visiting the city.

- The beach

Malaga is approximately 160kms of coastline. Malaga beaches are one of the main attractions and the fact that there are almost 300 days of sunshine a year, is an added bonus. La Malagueta, Pedregalejo and Huelin beaches are the closest to the historical center and the most famous. On the boardwalks of Malagueta, Pedregalejo and Huelin you can find small parks for children plus many bars and restaurants (Chiringuitos).

- Fitness with or without a sea view

The boardwalks of Huelin, Malagueta and Pedregalejo are popular among runners and those who like to exercise outdoors. In addition, they have installed a number of mini outdoor gyms which are totally free. They consist of exercise machines, pull-up bars,?high bars, low bars, double parallel bars, ab benches and monkey bars.??These areas are known by locals as "zones of strength" and here you can find them. You can even download the mobile app that will show you where to find them.

- Parador de Málaga

the ascent to the Parador de Málaga walk starts from la Subida Coracha (at exit of the tunnel exit to Malagueta). You should wear comfortable shoes and light clothes because the climb is quite steep. As a reward, you will get to enjoy some of the best views of Malaga city.

- Visit the historic center

The streets of the historic centre of Malaga have so much to offer. You can easily spend an afternoon or the whole day "getting lost" among the many streets and squares of the historic center. The streets are full of great works of architecture that lie between bars, shops, restaurants and museums.

- Paseo del Parque

As the name suggests, a beautiful walk through a park where you can enjoy different kinds of botanical plants, playgrounds and outdoor cafes. This tour is perfect in the summer months filled with the exquisite scents of the wild plants and flowers.

- Huelin Park

A park with green areas surrounding a beautiful lake. It is the perfect place to enjoy some quiet time.

- Atarazanas Market

Located in the historic centre, The Atarazanas Market is one of the attractions you cannot miss. You can see all kinds of fresh produce traded in a former naval workshop. Here you can also enjoy a tapa and a cold beer!

- Teatro Romano

Located at the foot of the?Alcazaba?and is one of the icons of Malaga. It is said that Roman theatre was built during the reign of Caesar Augustus in the first century B.C.

- Muelle Uno

The Port of Malaga offers visitors a spectacular harbour filled with shops, restaurants and?markets. It also has a space dedicated to art with a beer garden and alternating exhibitions.

- Montes de Malaga

This natural park situated a few kilometres from the north of Malaga is considered the lung of the surrounding areas, a recommended place to go trekking with beautiful spots such as the 'salto de agua de Picapedreros' (the stonemason?s waterfall). There are various trekking routes to choose from in the Montes de Malaga, through which one can admire the beauty of the scenery, the natural environment with its abundant flora and fauna.

- Parque el Morlaco

Is located in the Eastern part of Malaga city. It is a leafy forest with an area of 160,000 square metres. An interesting reforestation forest (it was planted by only a man, the guard of the farm when it was a private place), turned into a public park. It gives shade and calm in the middle of the city, barely visited by neighbor walking their dogs and young people, with beautiful views of the city and the bay.

- Botanical Gardens (Jardn Botánico-Histórico La Concepción)

Free every Tuesday. It has over 150 years of history of more than 50 thousand plants of subtropical origin. A beautiful picturesque walk!

- Heritage Museum (Museo del Patrimonio Municipal)

This museum, housed in a building at the bottom of the Coracha which was formerly used by the Guardia Civil, was opened in 2007. It celebrates Malaga's history and artistic heritage, from the times of the Reyes Catolicos, right up to the 20th century (Picasso). Find out how the city has evolved over the years.

If you're lucky enough to be visiting the city on a Sunday, you can enjoy many attractions that normally have an entrance fee.

  • Alcazaba and Castillo de Gibralfaro: Free on Sundays after 14h. The Alcazaba is one of the best preserved Moorish fortresses; It offers beautiful views of the city and a lift that takes you to the Arab foundation of the city. It is an icon of the city.
  • Picasso Museum: Free on the last Sunday of each month. Malaga being the birthplace of the famous painter, the Picasso Museum is a must.
  • Pompidou Museum: Free on Sundays after 16h. Due to it being is one of the most popular museums, there are often long queues on Sunday afternoon, so we suggest going early. It is definitely worth it!
  • Carmen Thyssen Museum Malaga: Free on Sundays after 17h. This museum will be of great interest to those who love the artistic history of Andalusia.
  • The Russian Museum: Free on Sundays after 16h. The Russian Museum provides an interesting collection and provides an overview of Russian history through artistic expression.
